Are Maison Soto products 100% natural?
At Maison Soto, our products are of natural origin, in accordance with ISO standard 16128. To meet this standard, the proportion of renewable, plant-derived ingredients must exceed 50% of the formulation. In the case of our products, this proportion is most often above 80%.
We have chosen not to offer products that are 100% natural according to IFRA, in order to retain the freedom to use certain synthetic ingredients when no natural equivalent exists and their cosmetic or olfactory properties are irreplaceable.
Are Maison Soto scented products safe?
Yes. All Maison Soto products comply with the standards established by IFRA (International Fragrance Association). Certain fragrance ingredients have maximum concentrations authorised by IFRA depending on the product category (perfume, candle, cream, room spray, rinse-off vs. leave-on, etc.), as exposure risk varies according to use. Other substances are prohibited or restricted by IFRA, including several allergens.
Are you using natural candle wax?
Yes. The wax used in our candle is plant-based and 100% natural, of European origin. We do not use paraffin.
Do candles affect and pollute indoor air quality?
Ingredient quality makes a real difference: natural waxes, cotton wicks, and naturally-derived fragrance materials generally produce far fewer by-products than paraffin, synthetic oils, or metal-core wicks. That said, no flame is entirely neutral to the air around it: any burning candle introduces particles and compounds into the air. As with any home fragrance product, we recommend ventilating the room regularly, such as opening a window for a few minutes after use, and avoiding prolonged, continuous use in small, enclosed spaces.
Home mist or candle: what's the everyday difference?
It depends on the mood you want to create and the space you want to fill. Candles offer a slower, more enveloping diffusion and work well in enclosed rooms where you want warmth and ambiance. Home mists are best for an instant, on-demand refresh rather than constant background fragrance. Mist it in a room, a wardrobe, or even linens whenever you want an immediate lift, and reapply as often as you like throughout the day.
Choose the mist when you want fragrance on your terms, and the candle when you want an atmosphere that lasts.
How to optimize the performance of my candle?
On first use, let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface (usually one to two hours). This ensures a full, even scent throw for the life of the candle. Before each subsequent lighting, trim the wick to around 5mm, keep it away from draughts, and avoid burning for more than four hours at a stretch.
How long a candle lasts when it is used?
A candle's burn time depends on its size and how it's maintained, but with proper wick care, ours are designed to deliver consistent scent and light across their full stated burn time before the wax is fully spent. A Maison Soto candle of 230g lasts 50 hours, whilst the 75g format lasts 20 hours.
